Spring has sprung, which means it's festival season in New Orleans! With so many things going on, we'll be featuring periodic blog posts with highlights of the city's happenings to keep you informed
Wednesday at the Square!
If you’ve lived in the greater New Orleans area for any length of time, you probably already know that this is a city of festivals. New Orleans hosts 130+ festivals each year, which equates to approximately 1 festival every 3 days! Accordingly, New Orleans has been voted the “best city in America for festivals” by Travel and Leisure! We’ve all heard of the city’s major festivals, such as the Jazz and Heritage Festival, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, French Quarter Festival, Essence Festival, etc. But there are other “hidden gem” festivals held on a smaller scale that are equally rewarding! Once such festival is Wednesday at the Square, which is hosted by the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans!
The Young Leadership Council (YLC) of New Orleans is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization created to develop leadership through community projects. Wednesday at the Square (also known as WATS) is a FREE (yes, FREE) 12-concert series hosted by YLC. The festival takes place in Lafayette Square from 5:00-8:00 PM every Wednesday during the 12-week concert season. The 2018 season began Wednesday, March 14, and runs through Wednesday, May 30. Anyone is welcome to visit the festival and listen to the music FOR FREE, but tickets may be purchased to use at the many food and beverage vendors showcasing their cuisine and libations. Each ticket costs $1, and most food and beverages can be purchased for 5-10 tickets. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefit YLC!
